cole & carroll both started upfront together at everton.
so cole was picked ahead of him.
in fact i think zarate came on for cole. (iric).

zarate had roughly the same game time and was playing in a different position. as i said, he needs to be more of a team player rather than being greedy on the ball. its no coincidence that he has played for 7 (apologies i counted lazio twice earlier) different clubs in 8 seasons.

By all accounts he was overweight, unfit and demanding to start games at QPR, this was after throwing his toys out of the pram for not getting enough playing time with us. I'm sure Slaven will give him a clean slate but he has been an issue for managers at virtually every club he has been at, hence why he has had 8 in so many seasons. he needs to be more of a team player imho.

Exactly goose.... he always did well (enough) when I have seen him play, just needs a settled run in the squad.
He was poorly managed by BFS and QPR last season... I think they said he was unfit as soon as he arrived at QPR so got off on the wrong foot there... if he was unfit then you have to question BFS and his training regime because (as far as I know) Zarate wasn't injured and should have been in full training with us... he was playing for us in October / November and looked fine then? If I was a conspiracy theorist I would say that BFS and his chums were trying to shaft him for some reason.

Everything on here is opinion, I just think they are basically similar and the way Bilic has been playing there might not be room for both on the pitch.

Exactly. And if he impresses the person that counts, that's the manager, then he will play him with Payet, and as I say, I think they could link up very well. All about WAVELENGTH.

i have no doubts Bilic's man management
is exactly what Zarate needs to shine ...
Personally ... i think this will be an awesome
season for him.

my overriding memory of zarate last season was everton away.
came on at half time and changed the game. caused everton all kinds of problems and scored with the help of a deflection.
was never seen again after that game.

The difference now is the dough he owes out, if there's one thing that will make you concentrate on being a good professional and trying your absolute best, it's the threat of being potless. I shouldn't think he'll be kicking up too much of a fuss not starting, and when he gets his chance, he'll be desperate to grab it.
I like him as a player, and I reckon he could be one to link up well with Payet.
